Susanne Thomas, M.Mus., B.Mus., B. Ed.

 Artistic Director and Conductor.

Born, raised and educated in London, Susanne has been involved with music since learning to play the flute at age 10. She is a graduate of London Central Secondary School, Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music and Western’s Faculty of Education.
Susanne taught music for the Thames Valley District School Board and the former London Board of education for over 25 years before retiring in 2013. With the encouragement of several Shrine Band members, she happily joined the flute section in September of that year. Susanne was excited to be part of an ensemble which included her university professors Don McKellar and Bob Hughes, as well as her first high school band teacher, Phil Murphy.
Before joining the Mocha Shrine Concert Band, Susanne played in numerous performing ensembles in the London area including the Fanshawe Orchestra and the Woodstock Strings. She and her husband have also sung with the Woodstock Choralaires for the last 10 years.
Susanne is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and experienced group of musicians who play together on Tuesday afternoons for the joy of playing – but also for the joy of sharing music with residents of local retirement and nursing homes.
Susanne also has strong ties to the Masonic community in London. She is married to V.W. Bro. L. Kent Thomas, is the mother of W. Bro. Jay Thomas and Job’s Daughters Past Honour Queen Colleen Thomas.
